What is Physical Wellness?
Physical Wellness is the first Dimension of Wellness – your physical health and fitness.
How do you incorporate taking care of your body every day?
Ways to maintain and improve your Physical Wellness include:
Eating a healthy, balanced balanced diet that is colourful and nutritious. The perfect diet includes a variety of fuits, vegetables, grains, legumes, proteins and healthy fats. It is not restrictive in any way.
This means engaging in physical activity that includes cardio, strength training, flexibility training, balance training and functional training in order to maintain a healthy weight and strong muscles.
It is very important to get a good sleep so that the body can rest and repair itself. For most adults 7-9 hours of sleep is ideal. It’s important to note that oversleeping can also be harmful to your physical wellness.
Regular check-ups and screenings are important to detect and prevent any potential health issues. This can include your primary care physician, dentist and eye doctor among others.
Good physical health also includes avoiding things that are harmful to your health like smoking, excessive drinking and drugs.
If you are just getting started on your journey the first thing I would encourage you do is to book an appointment with your doctor. It’s very important to determine or discuss if you have any medical conditions; if you’re on any medications and their implications; if you have any physical limitations and also to help monitor any progress. By speaking with your doctor before starting a new wellness plan, you can ensure that you are doing what is right for YOU and that you are staying safe and healthy.
By improving your physical wellness you allow yourself the ability to perform daily activities like cleaning your house or walking around the grocery store with energy and vitality. It allows you to live a good quality of life for many years to come.
