How to set SMART Goals

... and actually achieve them!

Success

Today we are going to talk about one the most important things you can do to achieve success in any aspect of your life: setting smart goals. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time – aka SMART goals.

So what exactly does it mean to set SMART goals?
Let's break it down:

Your goals should be clear and well-defined. Instead of saying, “I want to lose weight”, try setting a specific goal like “I want to lose 10 pounds in the next three months”.

You should be able to track your progress towards your goal. This means setting a specific metric for success. If your goal is to be able to do run 5km, determine how many days you want to run in a week and in what time frame.

Your goal should be challenging, but still be realistic. If your goal is too difficult or impossible, you’ll quickly become discouraged. Make sure you have the skills, resources, and time necessary to achieve your goal.

Your goal should be aligned with your values and overall objectives. If your goal doesn’t fit into the bigger picture of what you want to accomplish, it’s probably not worth pursuing.

You should set a deadline for achieving your goal. This will help you stay focused and motivated. Without a deadline, your goal can easily become something you’ll get around to “someday”.

How to Achieve your Goals!

Now that we’ve covered what SMART goals are, let’s talk about how to achieve them.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

1. Write your goals down: Putting your foals on paper (or on a digital document like the one I created for you here) makes them more real and tangible. It also helps you remember what you’re working towards.

2. Break your goals down into smaller steps: Achieving big goals can be overwhelming, but breaking them down in smaller, more manageable steps can make them less intimidating.

3. Stay accountable: Tell someone about your goals and ask them to check in with you periodically to see how you’re progressing. This can be a friend, family member, or even a coach.

4. Celebrating your successes: When you achieve a milestone or reach a goal, take the time to celebrate and acknowledge your hard work. This can help keep you motivated and focused on the bigger picture.

Remember, setting and achieving SMART goals is a process – it’s not achieving that happens overnight.

It takes time, effort, and a lot of hard work. But with the right mindset and approach, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

So get out there, set those goals, and starting making your goals a reality!
