What is Emotional Wellness?
Emotional Wellness is the third Dimension of Wellness. This is your ability to balance your emotions and manage the stresses of everyday life. It also includes having a positive attitude and outlook on life.
Ways to maintain and improve your emotional wellness include:
Focus on the positives aspects of your life and be grateful for them. I love writing them down in my gratitude journal and reminding myself often.
Engage in activities that bring you joy, relaxation and a sense of accomplishment such as exercise, a spa day or a favourite hobby. Something just for YOU.
Identify the sources of stress in your life and find effective ways to manage it such as deep breathing, yoga or time management.
Find healthy ways to express your emotions such as talking to a trusted friend, writing in a journal or seeking professional help.
Emotional Wellness is all about understanding and accepting our feelings regardless if they are positive or negative. All of your feelings and thoughts are valid and deserving of attention. It’s a process of self-awareness and self-love. Remember that it’s not a one time thing – It’s a journey! Take small steps every day to improve your emotional wellbeing and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
