What is Environmental Wellness?
Environmental Wellness is the fifth Dimension of Wellness. This is what surrounds you each day, the environments that you are in on a daily basis.
How do those places make you feel? What is the energy like? If we spend time in a stressed out, hectic environment it’s hard to feel at peace.
Ways to maintain and improve your Environmental Wellness include:
One of the best things I did was declutter my space. Make room for things you love and get rid of anything that doesn’t *spark* joy. Have a regular cleaning routine so that things don’t get out of hand and cause additional stress. Bonus – Less things means less things to keep clean.
Spending time in nature can reduce stress levels and promote relaxation and peace. It has also been shown to have positive effects on both mental and physical heath! Being in nature can help stimulate creativity and find inspiration.
Spending long periods of time looking at a screen can lead to eye strain, headaches, neck and back pain. It’s been linked to depression, anxiety and disrupted sleep patterns. In addition it can also lead to fatigue and a decreased attention span. Turn off your TV, put your phone on DND and go have fun.
Sometimes it’s difficult or impossible to improve spaces outside of our home which is why it’s so important to make your home/bedroom a sanctuary. Get yourself a plant, let the sunlight in, add colours that bring you joy. Make it a space that surrounds you with peace, positivity and happiness.
You can start by simply cleaning up garbage in your neighbourhood! If you have a yard, clean it up and make it look nice. If you own your home, make any necessary repairs or help any neighbours that may be struggling with the upkeep of their homes.
In my opinion, Environmental Wellness is one of the easiest ways to improve your overall wellbeing. Simply cleaning up your space can make you feel happy and at ease. Re-arranging your furniture can give you a fresh start and going outside can energize you. Not to mention, cleaning is a great way to move your body and get in some physical activity!
By making small changes today you can start on the path to living your best life! It won’t always be easy, but that’s why I’m here to support and guide you every step of the way.
